Norway House Cree Nation is seeking the services of a LANGUAGE PROJECT COORDINATOR – FULL TIME (CONTRACT POSITION)
The Language Project Coordinator will report to the Education Councillor. The Language Project Coordinator is responsible for ensuring effective delivery of the language revitalization initiatives by supervising project activities, coordinating community engagement, managing budgets, and ensuring alignment with the Four Pillars & Canadian Heritage language goals. The Language Project Coordinator will oversee the following responsibilities to support the revitalization and promotion of the Cree language:
Qualifications:
- A degree in Indigenous Studies, Linguistics, Education, or a related Field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Fluency or proficiency in the Cree Language (written and oral) is preferred.
- Experience in cultural programming, or community-based projects.
- Experience in program coordination, planning and evaluation.
- Passion for the preservation, revitalization, and promotion of the Cree language and culture.
- Strong organizational, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated Leadership/Management abilities.
- Computer literacy.
- Understanding of First Nations language preservation methodologies and cultural protocols.
Responsibilities:
- Reports to the Education Councillor.
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations, planning, and implementation of language revitalization projects, including but not limited to:
- Language Nest programs.
- Silent Speakers support initiatives.
- Land-based Cree language and culture camps.
- Community signage and public messaging in Cree.
- Supports the creation of educational resources and assists in radio programming.
- Support development of other language initiatives and curriculum support.
- Supervises project staff and collaborates with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to ensure program success.
- Facilitates community engagement sessions to identify language priorities.
- Organize workshops, language gatherings and training sessions.
- Liaises with schools, community organizations to integrate Cree language learning into public spaces and education.
- Monitors and evaluates project outcomes, ensuring language activities align with Canadian Heritage’s strategic goals and ensure milestones are met.
- Work with Financial Controller to prepare funding applications and financial reports to ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
- Participates in training and professional development related to language revitalization.
- Preforms other duties assigned by the Directors of Language and Education Councillor.
- Coordinates, arranges, and attends meetings with the working groups, community partners to ensure alignment and progress on language revitalization initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned by organizational demands.
