The Level Up: 6-Week Business Program is one of the key pathways NHCN Economic Development has created to support members who want to explore entrepreneurship from home or begin selling products in a safe guided, learning environment. Launched in December 2024, the first cohort welcomed 22 participants who took part in a blended learning experience that included weekly live online classes, one-on-one coaching, and practical activities to help shape and strengthen their business ideas.
Throughout the program, participants learned the foundations of planning, market awareness, branding basics, and how to prepare products for sale – whether online or from home. The course was designed with community realities in mind, making it easier for member to build confidence, develop skills, and take the first step toward income generation at their own pace.
Following strong interest and positive feedback, a second cohort is now in full swing, continuing to support even more community members on their entrepreneurial journey. Level Up also connects participants to the broader supports offered through the Business Support Program and Lane Two Learning Inc., ensuring they have the guidance long after the course ends.
The E-Commerce Marketplace is an exciting new initiative that will help NHCN entrepreneurs reach customers across Manitoba and beyond by selling their products online. Created to support artisans, home-based businesses, and emerging makers, the platform is designed to open new economic opportunities while strengthening digital skills in the community.
In 2025, the EDG launched the soft-launch phase of the project during the Annual 2025 Treaty and York Boat Days. Selected vendors from the Level Up program were invited to:
This pilot allowed the Economic Development Group to refine the platform and identify what tools and supports entrepreneurs need to succeed online. As development continues, the marketplace will expand into a full digital storefront featuring products made exclusively by NHCN members. The platform will offer:
The Oskimarket initiative reflects NHCN’s commitment to nurturing innovation, increasing access to markets, and creating new economic pathways for community members. Once fully launched, it will become a cornerstone of NHCN’s digital economy – showcasing the talent, creativity, and entrepreneurship of our Nation.
The Food Court project is a major feature of the upcoming 50,000 sq. ft. NHCN Business Centre, designed to bring new food options, employment opportunities, and business ownership pathways to the community. Located near the Multiplex and York Boat Inn, the upcoming Food Court will serve as a central gathering place for residents, visitors, and families, offering a welcoming space to enjoy good food and connect with others. In 2025, the project advanced significantly through a partnership with Bison Modular, moving into a modular design approach that will allow construction to be competed in efficient, flexible phases.
Once complete, the Food Court will include six food kiosks featuring a mix of franchised and community-owned dining options.
The project is closely connected to the Business Support Program, which will continue preparing interested community members for business operation within the Food Court. This includes training in food operations, business planning, licensing, and financial readiness – ensuring that NHCN entrepreneurs have the tools to succeed before stepping into kiosk ownership.
Beyond expanding dining options, the Food Court will:
As development continues, the Food Court will become an important anchor in NHCN’s growing business district, supporting economic growth and quality of life in the Nation.
