In advance of the upcoming Norway House Cree Nation election, NHCN Executive Management is issuing the following information to provide clarity regarding the roles and responsibilities of individuals and bodies involved in the election process. This information is intended to assist band members in directing inquiries appropriately and to support the orderly administration of the election.

  1. All communication relating to the election process itself must be directed to the Electoral Officer. The Electoral Officer is an independent authority responsible for administering the election in accordance with the applicable election law. Questions regarding voting procedures, ballot or other election-related matters should be submitted directly to the Electoral Officer. Neither the administration nor the elected leadership has authority to intervene in, interpret, or provide direction regarding the conduct of the election.
  1. The Appeal Committee has a defined and limited role that arises only after the election has taken place and if a formal election appeal is filed in accordance with the procedures. The committee is responsible for reviewing such appeals and determining them in accordance with the jurisdiction afforded to it and the election rules. Prior to that time, the Appeal Committee does not participate in the election process and should not be engaged in discussions regarding election administration.
  2. The Chief and Councillors are not involved in the conduct or administration of the election. To preserve the independence and impartiality of the electoral process, communications regarding the election should not be directed to the Chief or Councillors. Any correspondence or inquiries sent to them concerning election matters will not be addressed or responded to. All election-related matters must instead be directed to the Electoral Officer through the established channels.

Respectfully,
NHCN Executive Management
